How it works

How to set up a QR code menu from sign-up to your first week

Setting up a QR code menu with tamr takes about 20 minutes and no card. You sign up with an email, upload your menu as a link, a PDF or photos, set up the AI waiter and put the code on your tables. Below is every step, then what you see live during your first service and in your first week.

Step 1 of 6

To sign up for tamr you need an email address and nothing else. Enter it or continue with Google, type the 6-digit code we send you, and choose a password. There is no card and no time limit on the free plan. Then tamr asks one question: what is your restaurant called?

  • Your menu gets an address

The name you type becomes your menu link, for example ember.tamr.link. You see it before you continue.

  • Your first location is ready

tamr creates your first location, called Main location, in your time zone. Rename it or add more locations later.

Step 2 of 6

Upload your menu in the form you already have: a link to your menu page, a PDF, photos of the printed menu or a spreadsheet. tamr reads the dishes, prices and descriptions and puts a draft in your menu editor. Nothing is live until you review the draft and press publish.

  • Photos of every page

Take a photo of each page of your printed menu. tamr puts the pages together into one menu.

  • What is missing is marked

A dish with no price, photo or description gets a mark that says what it needs, so you know exactly what to fill in.

  • Or from your POS

On Pro, connect Foodics, BIM POS, Square, Toast, Loyverse, Clover or Lightspeed, and your menu comes across without typing.

Step 3 of 6

The AI waiter is ready as soon as your menu is in, and you decide how it speaks. In its settings you choose a tone, write the opening message and pick the questions customers can tap instead of typing. Customers never see a name. To them it is always the AI waiter.

  • Three tones

Warm, Formal or Playful. For Arabic you choose Lebanese or formal Arabic.

  • House rules

Choose what it does when a customer asks for something you do not serve: suggest the closest dish, or politely pass. It never invents dishes and always says your allergen disclaimer.

  • Private notes

Tell the AI waiter things like the time the kitchen closes. Customers never see these notes.

Step 4 of 6

Every menu gets one link, like ember.tamr.link, and a code that opens it. Print the code for your tables as table tents or stickers, and put the same link in your Instagram bio, on Google and in WhatsApp. Your customers open your menu on their phone, with no app to download.

  • Print it today

The code is permanent. It works the moment your menu is published, and it keeps working every time you change the menu.

  • Three ways to print

One code per location, one code that opens the nearest location, or one code where the customer picks the location.

How the digital menu works

Step 5 of 6

During your first service, open your dashboard at Overview. Under “On the floor right now” you see each conversation live, as it happens: the location, the customer's language, the first question and how it went. You do not wait for a report. Tap a row to read the whole conversation.

  • In your customer's language

Each customer asks in their own language, and the row shows which one. The AI waiter answers in that same language.

  • From your phone too

The dashboard opens in your phone's browser, so you can look between tables.

Step 6 of 6

By the end of your first week you know what your customers ask. Overview counts how many people opened your menu, how many chats the AI waiter answered and how many customers left unhappy. When the AI waiter could not answer a question, the conversation is marked Fallback, and you can fix it in a minute.

  • Fix it once

Open the conversation, press “Teach the AI waiter this” and add the answer as a note. The next customer who asks gets the answer.

  • What Free and Pro show

Free shows your counts and your three latest chats. Pro shows every conversation and the full Insights, including what customers asked for that you do not sell.

Starting costs nothing. The menu and the AI waiter are free at every location, with no card and no time limit. Pro, the owner's dashboard with every conversation and the full Insights, is $100 per location a month, or $1,000 a year.

How long does it take to set up a QR code menu with tamr?

About 20 minutes for most menus. Signing up takes a minute: an email, a 6-digit code and a password. Reading your menu takes a few minutes more. Most of the time goes on checking the draft, filling in any dish marked as missing a price or a photo, and choosing how the AI waiter speaks. Then you publish and print the code.

Do I need a credit card to start?

No. The free plan needs no card and has no time limit. It includes the menu and the AI waiter at every location. You only add a card when you move a location to Pro, the owner's dashboard, at $100 per location a month.

What can I upload as my menu?

A link to your menu page, a PDF, photos of your printed menu, or a spreadsheet with one dish per row. You can also start from nothing and add dishes one by one. On Pro you can connect your POS instead. tamr reads the dishes and prices, and you review the draft before anything goes live.

Does every table need its own code?

No. One code works on every table in a location, so you print the same code as many times as you need. For groups, tamr also has one code that opens the nearest location and one where the customer picks. The code never changes, so you do not reprint it when you change your menu.

Can I change what the AI waiter says?

Yes. You choose its tone, Warm, Formal or Playful, write its opening message, and pick the questions customers can tap. You decide what it does when someone asks for a dish you do not serve. It never invents dishes and always adds your allergen disclaimer. You can also give it private notes, such as the time the kitchen closes.

What happens when the AI waiter cannot answer?

It says so and does not guess, and it asks the customer to check with your server. The conversation is marked Fallback on your dashboard as it happens, and you can teach the AI waiter the answer with a short note, so the next customer who asks gets it.

Sign up with an email, upload your menu as a link, a PDF or photos, and print the code. About 20 minutes, free, no card.
