QR menu for Saudi Arabia in Arabic first, with calories and allergens on every dish

tamr is a QR menu for Saudi Arabia, for restaurants and cafes from Riyadh to Jeddah. Your customers scan, read your menu in Arabic or English, and ask the AI waiter in Arabic or English. It replies in Arabic, in a Gulf style when the customer writes in a Gulf dialect. Each dish can show its calories and allergens. The menu and the AI waiter are free.

As of October 2026, the Saudi Food and Drug Authority (SFDA) asks restaurant and cafe menus to show five things: the calories in each item, the allergens in each item, the caffeine in each drink, a salt label on high salt items, and the physical activity needed to burn an item's calories. The last three came into force on 1 July 2025, and they cover paper and electronic menus alike.

This is a summary for owners, not legal advice. Rules change, so confirm the current text with the SFDA before you print. The SFDA release of 27 February 2025 gives 19999 as the number for technical questions.

Cereals, fish, peanuts, tree nuts, milk, sulphites, celery, mustard, eggs, crustaceans, molluscs, sesame, lupin and soy. The SFDA says these must be disclosed when a meal contains them.

We found no national rule that makes a QR menu or an electronic menu mandatory in Saudi Arabia, and none that bans paper menus, as of October 2026. The SFDA labelling rules name paper menus, electronic menus and online ordering platforms together, so the same labels belong on every version of your menu.

Municipal requirements are set separately and can differ by city and by licence type. Before you remove printed menus, confirm with your municipality or the Ministry of Municipalities and Housing. A practical set-up is a QR code on every table and a few printed menus behind the counter for customers who ask for one. What a QR code menu is

A dish on a tamr menu shows its name, photo, price and description, and it has a field for calories and tags for ten allergens. Calories show as kcal on the dish, with protein, carbs and fat in grams if you add them. The numbers are the ones you enter, so they are as right as your recipe cards.

  • The AI waiter answers from the tags

A customer who says “no nuts” sees the dishes with no nut tag, and is asked to confirm with your staff.

  • Tags are always words

An allergen is never shown by colour alone. Each tag carries its name, in the customer's language.

How allergens work on the menu

tamr has a field for two of the five labels: calories and allergens, and for ten of the fourteen allergens. It has no caffeine field, no salt icon and no activity icon. tamr does not check your menu against any rule, and using it does not make a restaurant compliant. What your menu must carry is for you and the SFDA.

  • Calories

tamr has a field for it

Each dish has a calories field. It shows as kcal on the dish, beside optional protein, carbs and fat in grams.

  • Ten allergens

tamr has a field for it

Tag gluten, dairy, egg, nuts, peanut, sesame, soy, fish, shellfish and mustard on each dish. The tag always shows its name in words.

  • Celery, lupin, molluscs, sulphites

    No field in tamr

These four of the fourteen have no tag. Write them in the dish description, which every customer sees.

  • Caffeine per drink

    No field in tamr

There is no caffeine field. Write the milligrams in the drink's description, and the daily limit line in your menu's announcement bar.

  • Salt icon

    No field in tamr

tamr does not draw the salt icon. You can say a dish is high in salt in its description, in words.

  • Activity icons

    No field in tamr

tamr does not draw activity icons or work out burn times. You can write the time in the description.

In Riyadh, one table can mix people who read Arabic and people who read English. The AI waiter replies in the language and the script each customer writes in. Arabic gets Arabic, in a Gulf style when the customer writes in a Gulf dialect, and English gets English. The Arabic menu reads right to left.

  • Arabic in Latin letters too

A customer who types Arabic with Latin letters gets an answer the same way.

  • Every branch on one account

Each branch has its own code, opening hours and notes for the AI waiter. One menu can serve all of them.

How locations work

Jeddah is the main gateway for pilgrims on their way to Makkah, so a table there may read neither Arabic nor English. The AI waiter answers each customer in the language they write in, whatever it is, from the same menu. On Pro you can also translate the menu itself into the languages you pick.

  • One menu behind every language

You keep one menu. The answers come from its dishes, prices and tags, in every language.

  • You check every line

On Pro, tamr translates your menu into the languages you choose, and you can change any line.

tamr issues no invoices. Your bills and your tax invoices stay on your POS.
