Asking the AI waiter

How customers open the chat, the cards the waiter shows, allergy handling, and privacy.

When a menu has a waiter attached, customers see an Ask the AI waiter prompt. Tapping it opens a chat where they can ask anything about the food in plain language and get a specific, honest answer.

The waiter chat. A greeting, tappable starter questions, and an honest answer to anything about the menu.

What the customer sees

  • A greeting in the voice you set, with the call-bell avatar and, if relevant, the branch name.
  • Starter chips they can tap instead of typing, like "Something gluten-free" or "How spicy is the chili taouk?".
  • A message box, with a reminder to confirm allergens with staff before ordering.
  • A history button to revisit past chats, and a Forget me link to clear their data.

What the waiter can show

Beyond text, the waiter can bring up rich cards, depending on which ones you enabled. See chat cards →.

Allergy handling

Allergy questions always go to your staff

When a customer flags an allergy, the waiter notes it, shows a sticky reminder to confirm with staff, and can surface allergen-safe picks. It never guarantees a dish is safe on its own. This is deliberate, and it depends on complete allergen data on your dishes. See edit dishes →.

Privacy for the customer

The chat is device-friendly and private. A customer's language, saved dishes, and tray live on their own device. The Forget me link in the chat lets them clear their conversation history and preferences whenever they want.

FAQ

Why don't my customers see a chat option?

Chat only appears when the menu is published and a published waiter is attached. See attach and publish →.

Can I change the starter questions?

Yes, on the waiter's Voice tab. See voice, tone, and languages →.

Does the waiter ever make up a dish?

No. It only talks about what is on your menu. If a customer asks for something you do not serve, it says so and points them to the closest real option.
